AMETEK 8TR1 Wheelspace Thermocouples are designed to measure temperature in the wheelspace region of GE gas turbines — the narrow axial gap between the rotating turbine wheel (buckets) and the stationary diaphragm/nozzle assembly. This zone is shielded from the hot combustion gas path by labyrinth ("angel wing") seals and pressurized with compressor extraction air; a rising wheelspace temperature is an early indicator of seal degradation or hot gas ingestion that can damage rotor discs and stationary hardware if left unaddressed.

AMETEK Power Instruments manufactures these thermocouples to OEM-qualified design standards for direct replacement and retrofit on GE heavy-duty frame and aeroderivative gas turbines.
